Wick Park Recreation Center, located in Wick Park on Youngstown’s north side. It is owned by the
City of Youngstown. The Project Designers were Faniro Architects. This firm and Youngstown Cityscape nominated the project.
The Wick Park Recreation Center has been a North Side venue for countless events and activities. However, after sixty years of continuous use with only intermittent repairs and cosmetic improvements, the building was in need of a comprehensive renovation.
Between 2016 and 2018, Youngstown CityScape, a non-profit organization charged with the redevelopment of Wick Park, and The Rotary Club of Youngstown assembled a project team that would plan, finance, and construct an extensive restoration of this landmark 1956 building.
The Center is a substantial brick structure designed in an eclectic style that blends well with the aesthetic of the adjacent neighborhood. Work included a new handicap-accessible entrance and restrooms, a comprehensive window replacement, masonry repairs, a refreshing of interior finishes, lighting replacement, and new mechanical systems.
